AOGME Recorded Webinar Mental Health & Wellness
Recently
since COVID, there has been more talk and concerns about clinician burnout. However, many physicians have felt it was more than burnout and sometimes the reason they felt burnout was due to moral injury. Dr. Abraham has heard physicians use the term
burnout to describe their frustrations while dealing with moral injury. Moral injury differs from burnout as it is damage done to one's conscience rather than resilience. It is important to understand how moral injury affects clinicians in healthcare
for our overall wellbeing and for our patients. Hence, Dr. Abraham chose this topic to clarify and provide education on the difference between burnout and moral injury. Her discussion is largely based on a recent study published by Dr. Wendy Dean,
Dr. Simon Talbot and Austin Dean.
The objectives of this webinar are:
• Differentiate between burnout, moral distress and moral injury
• Understand the effects of moral injury in healthcare
• Review methods
to prevent and address moral injury
