About AOGME
The Assembly of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Educators (AOGME) is a professional group that consists of individuals working in osteopathic graduate medical education (GME).
As part of AACOM, the mission of AOGME is to improve the health of the public and enhance the training of medical residents by advancing excellence in the osteopathic learning environment and increasing the number of GME programs that integrate osteopathic education, including Osteopathic Recognition, a designation conferred by the ACGME.
The purpose of the assembly is to strengthen and develop the medical education continuum in accordance with the osteopathic philosophy by:
- Supporting leadership and professional development for those engaged in GME
- Fostering excellence and inclusion in the clinical learning environment
- Assisting in the development of new community-based GME programs including in rural and underserved areas
- Increasing the number of GME programs that integrate osteopathic education including those seeking Osteopathic Recognition
AOGME provides leadership and tools to assist osteopathic educators in developing physicians who achieve excellence in patient care. We are committed to supporting our members as they strive each day to serve the osteopathic profession in every aspect of their education.
AOGME represents members from many medical education environments:
- Hospitals/hospital consortiums
- Colleges
- OPTIs
- Specialty colleges
- Community-based healthcare facilities
- Ambulatory care clinics
- Rehabilitation centers
- Surgicenters
Within these settings, AOGME members work as designated institutional officials (DIOs), directors of medical education (DMEs), program directors, deans, academic and clinical faculty, academic and administrative officers, administrative employees and resident and fellow physicians.
AOGME actually has supported my whole career ever since I was a resident. I started coming to meetings and I was able to find mentors... David Kuo, DO
