The SOME Innovation in Medical Education Awards celebrate groundbreaking contributions that enhance osteopathic medical education. Each year, two $1,000 awards are presented to SOME members whose innovative projects have significantly impacted their institutions. Winners are selected through a peer-review process and are nationally recognized for their achievements.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Applicants must be members of SOME
  • Members of the SOME Steering Committee are ineligible

Award Categories  

  • Basic Science Medical Education
  • Clinical Medical Education – Marguerite Elliott* Award
  • Development of Enduring Educational Materials
  • Osteopathic Medical Distinctiveness

*Marguerite Elliott, DO, was a pioneering member of SOME, advocating for osteopathic principles and advancing education. 

Application Process 

We are looking for proposals that showcase innovative approaches tailored to the unique needs of osteopathic medical educators and learners. Successful submissions will: 
  • Clearly define the purpose and audience.
  • Incorporate diverse and emerging sources of information.
  • Present creative and unique ideas.
  • Demonstrate practical educational value with feasible solutions to real-world challenges.

Submit your application through our Submission Portal and include: 

  • The title of your innovation
  • A concise summary in less than 6500 characters (~1100 words)
  • Supporting evidence of effectiveness such as qualitative/quantitative data or letters of support. 

Timeline: 

  • Submission cycle open January 17, 2025 – February 24, 2025
  • Award Notifications by April 2, 2025
