Student Doctor Turned Author Shares Sun Safety Tips in New Children's Book

Student doctor Nahleh Koochak, a fourth-year student at the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM), is sharing her passion for dermatology and promoting the importance of sun safety in her first children’s book, “The Sunbeam Explorers.”

Inspired by her clinical rotation in pediatrics, Nahleh says the book explores the introductory journeys of seven different characters from around the world, each with their own cultural twist on different ways to protect their skin against the sun. VCOM-Louisiana Students Participated in Campus Blood Drive

The student chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI) at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Louisiana Campus (VCOM-Louisiana) partnered with LifeShare Blood Center to give the gift of life. With two fully equipped mobile blood collection buses on-site, medical students rolled up their sleeves and made a difference by donating blood. VCOM-Carolinas Kicks off ‘Creating Culturally Competent DOs’ Series

The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Carolinas Campus (VCOM-Carolinas) medical students kicked off their “Creating Culturally Competent DOs” series with an engaging lecture from Matt Cannon, DO, on “Food Culture and Considerations for Different Populations.” The series of seven lectures is designed to help future doctors gain a deeper understanding of the diverse backgrounds of the patients they will care for throughout their careers. Master Program Alumni Sweep Medical School’s Student Board

Alumni from the Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine (TUCOM)’s Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences (MSMHS) program swept all 10 spots in elections early in the spring semester for the COM Student Executive Council (COMSEC) board for 2024-2025.

Muhammad Iqbal, President of the COMSEC board, says the MSMHS faculty members empower students to achieve and push themselves to greater heights by creating positive change and making an impact as they progress through their careers. That includes being a force for change within the University as MSMHS alums move into the doctor of osteopathic medicine program. Read more about the students’ positions on the COMSEC board.


Student Doctors and Faculty Research Published in MDPI Journal of International Medical Education

A research manuscript titled, “Integration of Immunology in a Systems-based Osteopathic Medical Curriculum,” was published in the Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute Journal of International Medical Education on August 1, 2024.

This project involved three California Health Sciences University College of Osteopathic Medicine (CHSU-COM) third-year student co-authors, Zian Shabbir, Layla Mazdeyasnan and Naila Iqbal; two CHSU-COM faculty, Mahboob Qureshi, MD, MPH, PhD, associate dean of Academic Affairs and Assessment and professor, and Reena Lamichhane-Khadka, MS, PhD, professor of Biomedical Education; and former CHSU-COM Department Chair, Samuel Kadavakollu, PhD, MSc, as co-authors.
