- On July 12, 2023, the House Committee on Education and the Workforce passed a four-bill package aimed at strengthening transparency in healthcare, including the Transparency in Billing Act (H.R.4509), the Transparency in Coverage Act (H.R.4507), the Health DATA Act (H.R. 4527) and the Hidden Fee Disclosure Act (H.R. 4508).
- According to Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC), these bills would ensure that hospitals account for their charges correctly, require consultants to disclose their compensation from group health plans and pharmacy benefit managers, direct healthcare plans to release costs publicly and guarantee that healthcare fiduciaries have access to cost and quality of care information. However, some committee members are opposed, stating that the package would increase costs for the consumer in the long run.
