AACOM Endorses Legislation to Expand THCGME Program; HRSA THCGME Grants Awarded

- On April 11, 2023, Rep. Frank Pallone reintroduced the AACOM-endorsed Doctors of Community (DOC) Act, H.R. 2569.
- H.R. 2569 would permanently authorize the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) program and support the creation of 48 additional THCGME programs and 1,060 new residency positions throughout the country. In our FY24 Appropriations Testimony, AACOM supported increased funding for the program, which is currently set to expire on September 30, 2023.
- DOC Act reintroduction follows last month’s Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) announcement of $23 million in grants to support the planning and development of 46 new THCGME locations, which were funded by AACOM-supported legislation.
