Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ) recently signed on as a cosponsor to the Fair Access In Residency (FAIR) Act, H.R. 751. Rep. Lesko represents the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) and is a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, which shares jurisdiction over the bill.
Midwestern University established AZCOM in Glendale, Arizona in 1995 to help meet our country’s growing need for physicians,” says AZCOM Dean Lori Kemper, DO. “AZCOM has since increased its class size to help address the need for more physicians in Arizona. On behalf of AZCOM and its students, I thank Rep. Debbie Lesko for supporting the FAIR Act, which would provide AZCOM graduates with a fair path to residency training and help ensure that Arizona patients have access to physician-led care.
AACOM continues to build momentum as national and state organizations endorse the FAIR Act. More than 60 groups have signed on to our coalition support letter, with 13 associations jumping onboard in 2023:
- Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association
- Arkansas Osteopathic Medical Association
- Colorado Society of Osteopathic Medicine
- Kansas Association of Osteopathic Medicine
- Louisiana Osteopathic Medical Association
- Maryland Association of Osteopathic Physicians
- New Mexico Osteopathic Medical Association
- South Carolina Osteopathic Medical Society
- Southwest Virginia Graduate Medical Education Consortium
- Utah Osteopathic Medical Association
- Virginia Rural Health Association
- Washington State Medical Association
- West Virginia Osteopathic Medical Association
Your voice is needed to ensure that Medicare-funded residency programs accept DO applications and the COMLEX-USA. Act now to urge your Members of Congress to cosponsor the FAIR Act (H.R. 751) and introduce a Senate companion bill.
