IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Bethesda, MD) - Stepping up its yearlong celebration, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) today announced that Nicole Wadsworth, DO, will be the chair of Educating Leaders 2023, the world’s largest gathering of the osteopathic medical education community, April 26-28 in Baltimore, Maryland. AACOM will be celebrating its 125th Anniversary with special events throughout the conference.
“We are very excited to have Dr. Wadsworth as our 2023 Chair. She is a trailblazer in the medical education community and one of osteopathic medicine’s greatest champions,” said AACOM President and CEO Robert Cain, DO. “As we celebrate our anniversary and the tremendous growth of osteopathic medicine, we look to leaders like Dr. Wadsworth to keep our profession’s momentum moving forward and to ensure that the next generation of osteopathic physicians are highly trained and prepared to serve the growing medical needs in every community.”
Nicole Wadsworth, DO, is the dean of New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM). Previously, she served as site dean for NYITCOM on the Long Island campus, and prior to that as senior associate dean at NYITCOM. Before arriving at NYITCOM in 2018, she served as associate dean of academic affairs at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. While there for 17 years, she served in various faculty and administrative roles. Wadsworth’s educational interests include board preparation of medical students who struggle with academic success; interprofessional education; simulation in medical education and curriculum development.
“I am honored to be the chair of Educating Leaders and look forward to an exciting, educational and thought-provoking conference,” said Dr. Wadsworth. “Osteopathic medicine has grown exponentially in the last 20 years and gatherings like Educating Leaders are essential to learning best practices, continuing professional development and forging strong relationships throughout the osteopathic medical community.”
About AACOM:
Founded in 1898 to support and assist the nation's osteopathic medical schools, today, AACOM represents all 38 accredited colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs)—educating more than 35,000 future physicians, 25 percent of all U.S. medical students—at 62 teaching locations in 35 U.S. states. With several more schools planned, projections show that by 2030, one third of all U.S. medical students will be training at a COM.
