Today, we join hundreds of osteopathic medical education advocates during AACOM’s Advocacy Day in championing issues critical to osteopathic medicine including graduate medical education (GME) parity and access to research funding. As GME professionals who are impacted by policy daily, it is critical that we engage in advocacy when possible. While we are in one of the busiest weeks for GME, we urge you to take a moment to engage in the advocacy efforts through social media, email or other mechanism. Learn more.
As I assume my new role of Chair of AOGME, I am excited to engage with members to advance AACOM’s mission. In early August, the AOGME Board will begin its annual continuous strategic planning efforts with a Board retreat to examine the current strategic framework. The board will ensure alignment with AACOM’s strategic plan and the needs of the GME community.
AACOM/AOGME Virtual Residency Fair
We are pleased to hold the fourth AACOM/AOGME Virtual Residency Fair on August 5, 2022, 12:00-8:00 PM ET. Programs to select times that work for them to engage with students during the day. The cost for programs to participate is $140, and AOGME members will receive a $40 discount for a total program/booth cost of $100. Last year’s virtual fair was a success, and feedback received indicates that the connection to students at the fair was helpful during the residency selection process. Register your program for the fair today!
2022 AOGME Webinar Series
To open the AOGME webinar series for the summer, this month we hosted Drs. Elizabeth Zmuda and Andrew Eilerman of OhioHealth Doctors Hospital who shared their innovative model for supporting Osteopathic Recognition for multiple GME programs.
Next month, we are pleased to be joined by Dr. Deborah S. Clements at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and Dr. W. Fred Miser at the Ohio State University Family and Community Medicine Residency Program who will present on the ACGME Resident Surveys and how to use them to improve your residency program. Register for the webinar today.
The AOGME Education Committee has planned webinars for the remainder of the 2022 calendar year, including webinars on healthcare IT, GME well-being, the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) program and professional identity formation. In addition, webinars on interviewing for residency, the residency match and more will soon be available to assist osteopathic medical students through the 2023 residency application process. ACGME/AOGME Osteopathic Recognition Course
The ACGME issued a Call for Sessions for the 2023 ACGME Annual Education Conference this week. We are pleased to partner with the ACGME for another year for the ACGME/AOGME Osteopathic Recognition Full-Day Course that will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023 in Nashville, TN. We encourage AOGME members to consider submitting a proposal for the Course by August 1, 2022 to share what your programs or institutions are doing to maintain or advance Osteopathic Recognition.
Join our next AOGME-hosted peer-to-peer discussion forum on July 20 at 4:00 PM ET to connect and discuss your experiences in the new academic year and your plans for the recruitment season and the 2023 match.
