GME Growth Resources; Thanking Residents

This month, we shared information about the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) final rule establishing 1,000 new residency positions, through a webinar discussion with healthcare law partners of McDermott Will & Emery. We encourage members to inform us of information or resource needs related to efforts to grow and expand graduate medical education (GME).

We continue to share new GME funding opportunities with members including for the teaching health center residency programs through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Additionally, AACOM Government Relations provides an analysis of a proposed rule by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for a new GME pilot program.  

Away Rotations Update

AACOM and its partners in the Coalition for Physician Accountability (CPA) announced this month that there will be no restrictions for away rotations in 2022-203 academic year. To help student prepare for rotations, the AOGME Residents and Fellows Council (RFC) and members of the AACOM Council on Residency Placement (CORP) will hold a student-focused webinar today, February 28, 2022 at 7:00 PM ET on How to Succeed in Clinical Rotations. Last month, the RFC held a webinar on residency match preparation for fourth-year medical students, along with members of CORP. View the webinar recording.

Thanking Residents

We are very proud of all residents and especially the leaders that serve within the AOGME Residents and Fellows Council (RFC). AACOM highlights the Chair of the RFC, Emmanuel Dimitri Tito, DO, in a recent article on his leadership journey. AACOM also featured a first-year resident at Cleveland Clinic, Peris Kibera, DO, PhD, MPH, MSW, who is working to advance research on healthy nutrition and disease. In recognition of Thank a Resident Day on February 25, we applauded the outstanding leaders of the RFC and all residents.

Register for Educating Leaders 2022: The AACOM Annual Conference

The AACOM Annual Conference will be held on April 27-29 in Denver, CO. This year’s conference will be a hybrid event, held both in-person and online. The AOGME will host an in-person reception on Thursday, April 28 at 5:30 PM and will recognize 2020-2022 Collegium of Fellows inductees and award recipients. During the conference, AOGME will host the following sessions: GME Finance and Growth, and Best Practices for Programs with Osteopathic Recognition and a session on Integrating Osteopathic Training in GME programs.
