Coalition for Physician Accountability Releases Final Report and Recommendations for Learner Transitions from Medical Schools to Residency Programs in 2020

The Coalition for Physician Accountability's Work Group on Learner Transitions from Medical Schools to Residency Programs in 2020 has released a final report and recommendations that are now available on the AACOM website. The goal of the recommendations is to promote public and professional safety by mitigating the effects of pandemic-related disruption in the transition from undergraduate to graduate medical education.

The Coalition convened a work group to propose recommendations for the guidance of learners, schools, institutions, and organizations in the transition of medical school graduates into their PGY-1 appointments in U.S. residency programs in 2020. This work group comprised representatives from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC), the American Medical Association (AMA), the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), the Organization of Program Director Associations (OPDA), AACOM's Assembly of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Educators (AOGME), and AACOM.

The new guidance document includes recommendations for 2020 match participation agreements, residency appointments, delayed medical school graduation, and many more important topics.
