Take Action on October 17! Be an Advocate for the OME Community

The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM)'s COM Day on Capitol Hill is held annually in Washington, DC, for osteopathic medical school deans, the Assembly of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Educators, and other designated members. This year’s COM Day will be held October 16-17. Participation from our member colleges is vital to addressing critical policy issues, such as the pending reauthorization of the Higher Education Act and the investment in the nation’s future physician workforce.
Our nation's colleges of osteopathic medicine are educating nearly 31,000 future physicians. Considering that it takes fewer than 30 responses to a social media post by a Member of Congress to capture the attention of a congressional office, imagine the impact the osteopathic medical education (OME) community could have if we speak up together.
On October 17, AACOM is calling on the OME community to increase the impact of COM Day on Capitol Hill by taking action on Virtual Hill Day. Virtual Hill Day allows all advocates to use social media to share their personal stories with lawmakers, regardless of where they are across the country. AACOM's national grassroots advocacy campaign, ED to MED, features a web page with information and resources that make it easy to take action in support of the future healthcare workforce and patients they will serve.
Be a part of the process. Plan to take action on October 17 in support of the federal policies and programs that are vital to our nation's future physicians.
