AOGME is offering a special sneak preview of the Graduate Medical Education Leadership Development Program (GME-LDP) program for those interested but who have not yet registered. This webinar, which will cover competency-based education for residency faculty will be held on October 2 at 4:00 PM ET. If interested in registering for the webinar and learning more about the program, contact aogme@aacom.or or sign up for the webinar today. The GME-LDP is a hybrid of live webinars (also offered asynchronously) and a one-day, in-person workshop. The program will include group discussions, case studies, role playing, interactive exercises, and presentations to help build and support your professional and personal growth.

In addition to AOGME’s standing committees and Councils, two new member engagement opportunities are now in place. Earlier this month, we were pleased to formalize the AOGME GME-CME Osteopathic Learning Community, which is a newly formed AOGME Committee of GME and CME leaders involved in helping their institutions meet COCA accreditation standards related to GME. This group grew out of a need the leaders saw among GME & CME leadership at institutions across the nation, who are working in silos to develop training courses for their GME programs and preceptors to meet the foundational educational requirements from COCA, ACGME, and ACCME. This group will share best practices for developing and executing CME activities, supporting Osteopathic Recognition and determining ways to prepare the MD faculty and residents for programs with Osteopathic Recognition. If interested in learning more, contact us at aogme@aacom.org.

Engagement in GME Policy and Advocacy

Thank you to those who expressed interest in the new AACOM GME Advisory Policy group! The intent of this group is to gather experts in the field who are willing to serve as a resource to AACOM as we evaluate federal policies that impact GME and the osteopathic medical education community. Group members will help strengthen and inform AACOM’s advocacy efforts as AACOM seeks to influence federal GME policy.

Next month, AOGME will have representation at the 2019 COM Day on Capitol Hill, which is AACOM's annual advocacy day for osteopathic medical school/campus deans, OGME leaders, and designated representatives to meet with their lawmakers in Washington, DC about federal policy issues affecting the osteopathic medical education community.

Progress in the Single GME accreditation System Transition

Fall ACGME Review Committee meetings are currently underway. Obstetrics and gynecology, urology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and orthopaedic surgery have concluded their meetings. The AOA has shared with us that 10 orthopaedic surgery programs, 2 obstetrics and gynecology, 1 physical medicine and rehabilitation, and 2 urology programs have just received Initial Accreditation. Congratulations to those, and we look forward to hearing further updates as the fall meeting cycle concludes.
