Graduating osteopathic medical students, as you approach one of the most significant milestones in your medical education—Match Week—I wish to extend my deepest congratulations, encouragement and pride. The journey to becoming a doctor of osteopathic medicine is immensely rewarding, but it is also demanding and rigorous. Reaching this moment is a testament to your dedication, resilience and passion for patient care.
Next Monday, you will learn if you’ve matched. No matter the outcome, I urge you to take a moment to recognize how far you have come. You have navigated countless challenges, excelled in your studies and demonstrated the perseverance required to become an osteopathic physician. That alone is an achievement worth celebrating.
With each graduating class, I am continually impressed by the caliber of osteopathic medical students. You are entering the profession at a time when your skills and patient-centered approach are more needed than ever. Last year, we saw a record number of DO students match into first-year residency positions, with more than half choosing primary care—an essential step in addressing our nation’s healthcare needs. Many of you will play a critical role in delivering care to rural and underserved communities, embodying the osteopathic philosophy of whole-person, compassionate medicine.
At AACOM, we are committed to supporting you every step of the way. We continue to advocate for a fair and transparent residency selection process, working to eliminate unnecessary barriers and ensure you have access to the opportunities you deserve. Our AACOM Match Resource Center is also here to help you navigate these last steps of your residency transition, offering valuable insights and guidance.
As you embark on this next phase of your medical journey, know that you are not alone. AACOM and the entire osteopathic community stand behind you, ready to support you in achieving your goals. No matter where your path leads, your commitment to this profession will make a profound impact on your patients and communities.
On behalf of AACOM and the colleges of osteopathic medicine, congratulations on all you have accomplished. We can’t wait to see the incredible physicians you will become.
