Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Grand Rounds Prepare Medical Students for Differential Diagnoses

The Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) held an interactive Grand Rounds on the Downers Grove Campus, where medical students were presented with the facts of a patient case and periodically asked to give their differential diagnosis through an interactive platform. The medical students learned about acute mesenteric ischemia from an interdisciplinary healthcare approach.

Medical students later discussed their experience participating in the CCOM Grand Rounds. Shilpa Nair (CCOM ’28) said, “It was really interesting to see everything that we’re learning in class integrated together.” Shilpa further expressed her appreciation of the faculty going step by step through a case they might see in the future. ‘ICOM Day at the Capitol’ Brings Students to the Statehouse

Student doctors at ICOM connected with Idaho legislators and state leaders during the College’s sixth annual “ICOM Day at the Capitol” event in March.

This annual advocacy-centered event provides students with a behind-the-scenes look at the state’s legislative process, as well as a platform to discuss important topics with lawmakers. Read Read more and view additional photos from the day at the Idaho statehouse.


NYITCOM-Arkansas Holds Vaccine Event at Rural School

The New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University (NYITCOM-Arkansas) led a free vaccine clinic at Marked Tree Public Schools on March 6, 2025. The event was coordinated through NYITCOM’s Delta Population Health Institute (DPHI), which regularly hosts health outreach and health education events throughout the region.

Marked Tree unfortunately does not currently have a practicing physician in its community, but NYITCOM and the DPHI took vaccines to schools to give students access to them. About 40 Marked Tree students received vaccines, and NYITCOM medical students assisted in administering them. Read more coverage from Northeast Arkansas News.


WVSOM Looks to Future in State of the School Address

President James W. Nemitz, PhD, after acknowledging recent accomplishments of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM), broke from tradition on March 18, 2025, by focusing most of his annual State of the School address on strategic initiatives to move the school forward.

“That is where we need to focus—on the future,” Dr. Nemitz said.

The president told an assembly of faculty and staff in the school’s conference center that the administration is finalizing a strategic plan based on four measurable pillars to ensure WVSOM’s continued success. Read more about what the future of future of WVSOM will look like.

Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Louisiana Campus (VCOM-Louisiana) leadership and faculty recently recognized the accomplishments of faculty members. Among the many deserving nominees, Randy Aldret, EdD, was named clinical faculty of the year, and Adam Morrow, PhD, was named biomedical faculty of the year. The event highlighted the contributions of faculty who have had a real impact on the educational experience of VCOM-Louisiana students over the last year.
