Student Doctors Volunteer at Disney World Marathon Weekend
Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM)'s student doctors had a unique privilege to volunteer in the medical tent for the four-day running event at Walt Disney World. RunDisney hosted runs ranging from 5K to full marathons, during which students were available to assist should there be any medical needs. Lifestyle Medicine Talk Emphasizes Proper Nutrition, Exercise and Compassionate Conversations

Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) alumnus Michael Ladewski, DO ‘05, visited his alma mater to provide insight into lifestyle medicine for aspiring medical professionals. Lifestyle medicine is centered upon evidence-based methods of incorporating changes to a patient’s lifestyle including a diet of whole food and plants, enough hours of sleep, managing stress, regular exercise, socialization and stepping away from risky substances.
Dr. Ladewski highlighted that these aspects of lifestyle medicine “are all important synergistically together.” He also discussed that helping to change a patient’s lifestyle also involves collaboration with other healthcare professionals such as nutritionists and physical therapists. First-Year VCOM-Auburn Students Win Annual Holiday Bowl, Supporting a Great Cause
In December 2024, the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Auburn Campus (VCOM-Auburn)'s first-year students secured an impressive victory in the annual Holiday Bowl game, marking another memorable win in this beloved VCOM-Auburn tradition. Despite the chilly weather, fans showed up in full support, making the night a resounding success. All proceeds from the game went toward the Angel Tree Fundraiser, hosted by Hispanic Community Medical Outreach, to help spread holiday cheer to those in need. UNTHSC-TCOM’s Dr. Lisa Nash Selected to Serve on HRSA’s Federal Advisory Committee
Lisa Nash, DO, MS-HPEd, interim dean at the University of North Texas Health Science Center-Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNTHSC-TCOM) was appointed to serve on the prestigious Federal Advisory Committee on Training in Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Nash’s appointment to the committee is for three years and she will begin serving in March 2025. She will be one of only two DOs on the committee. WVSOM Grad Keeps Virginia Tech Athletes in Prime Playing Condition
As a physician who treats members of Virginia Tech’s athletics teams in Blacksburg, Virginia, Matthew Chung, DO, combines his dual passions for medicine and sports. The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) Class of 2015 alumnus grew up participating in nearly every organized sport imaginable, eventually settling on tennis, golf and rowing as his “big three” during high school and college.
Today, he’s a sports medicine specialist who provides sideline coverage for Virginia Tech’s football and women’s lacrosse teams and cares for the university’s tennis and women’s swimming and diving teams. He also teaches as an assistant professor at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) and sees patients at his practice at VCOM Sports and Osteopathic Medicine.
