Students from the International Medicine Society at Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) recently completed their second annual medical mission trip to Costa Rica. Eight students collaborated with local healthcare providers to care for underserved patients, assist with procedures and enhance their medical skills—all while communicating in Spanish. The team treated more than 70 patients, visited a nursing home to explore elder care practices and embraced Costa Rican culture by learning to cook traditional dishes. The trip offered a unique blend of hands-on learning and cultural immersion, reinforcing LMU-DCOM’s commitment to global health outreach and fostering compassionate, skilled healthcare professionals. Boy Scouts Gain Critical First Aid Skills with Help from PCOM Volunteers
Be prepared—the motto of the Boy Scouts of America—was on full display recently when Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) students teamed up with volunteer Scouts leaders for the First Aid Through First Class hands-on training event.
PCOM medical students helped teach first-aid skills to more than 30 scouts, ranging in age from 11 to 18, from Greater Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Skills included transporting, wound care, splinting, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid for heat-related injuries, stroke and bites. With supplies donated by PCOM, scouts also assembled their own first-aid kits. Read more about PCOM’s partnership with the Boy Scouts of America.
