AACOM congratulates Leslie Wimsatt, PhD, associate dean for academic assessment, quality and development at the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine, for her Curriculum Leader Award recognition from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). This award honors individuals who have demonstrated exemplary service to advance curriculum with the AAMC.

“Dr. Wimsatt truly stands out among the individuals who volunteer to further the representation of osteopathic medical education in the larger medical education community,” said Mark Speicher, PhD, MHA, AACOM senior vice president of research, learning and innovation. “She has not only been involved in AACOM’s key content areas—including researching curricula at colleges of osteopathic medicine, presenting and reviewing for Educating Leaders, reviewing research grants and playing a key role in the development and research of osteopathic considerations for Entrustable Professional Activities—but has also held multiple leadership positions across medical education and curriculum planning. We are grateful for her dedication and are thrilled that this recognition is going to a deserving member of our community.”

In addition to her work with the AAMC, Dr. Wimsatt has been an active member across multiple AACOM initiatives. She became a fellow in the National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators in 2016. She has been an integral part of the success of the joint AACOM - AAMC Curriculum SCOPE (Structure, Content, Organization, Process and Evaluation) Survey. Her work in student well-being and academic success has been used by medical educators at both DO- and MD-granting institutions. Her research and her collegiality are recognized as crucial to the continued advancement of osteopathic medical education.

AACOM would like to thank Dr. Wimsatt once again for her commitment to furthering osteopathic representation across the spectrum of medical education.
