  • WVSOM Awarded $13.6M State Appropriation: On October 18, 2024, West Virginia Governor Justice visited the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) to sign legislation providing $13.6 million to address deferred maintenance issues at the school. Learn more.
  • VCOM and Senator Cassidy Volunteer to Serve Louisiana Communities: On August 28, 2024, Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA), VCOM-Louisiana Dean Dr. Mark Sanders and members of VCOM-Louisiana’s Volunteer Committee attended Ouachita Green’s Award Luncheon. VCOM-Louisiana’s Volunteer Committee partners with local organizations to offer students opportunities to serve Northeast Louisiana. Learn more.
  • Applications Open for NIH Loan Repayment Program: Applications are open for the NIH Extramural Loan Repayment Program. Qualified applicants can receive up to $50,000 annually in education loan repayment in return for a commitment to engage in NIH mission-relevant research. Applications are due by November 21, 2024. Learn more.
  • NIH HEAL Initiative: Pain Research Enhancement Program: The NIH released a notice of funding opportunity for the Heal Initiative program. The purpose of the program is to foster new NIH partnerships to pursue basic and mechanistic pain research. The specific goals of the awards are to: 1) support basic and mechanistic pain research from R15-eligible undergraduate-focused serving institutions, health professional schools or graduate schools; 2) promote integrated, interdisciplinary research partnerships between principal investigators from R15-eligible institutions and investigators from U.S. domestic institutions; and 3) enhance the pain research environment at the R15-eligible institution for health professional students, undergraduate students and/or graduate students through active engagement in pain research. Applications are due November 19, 2024; October 28, 2025; and October 27, 2026. Learn more.
  • HHS Hosting Food Is Medicine Webinar: The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is hosting a webinar for Health Resources and Services Administration-supported health centers to introduce Food Is Medicine, as well as new resources and opportunities to get involved. The webinar will be held from 1:30-3:00 PM ET on Tuesday November 5, 2024. Register.
  • Apply to NRHA's Health Equity Council: The National Rural Health Association (NRHA) is currently seeking applications to serve on the board of their Health Equity Council. The council meets once annually in conjunction with NRHA's Annual Health Equity Conference and via teleconference each month.
