Navigating through medical school is much like learning how to ride a bicycle. When you first hop on and start pedaling, you’re likely to hit some bumps and obtain bruises along the way; but you slowly begin to find your balance and forge your own path. For student doctor David Butler, a third-year student at the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM), cycling has become an outlet to find the perfect school-life balance.

Since 2020, David has logged at least 2,000 to 3,000 miles on his bike every year, participating in a local race or sporting event here and there. Earlier this year, he decided to take his cycling hobby a little more seriously. Read more about David’s cycling journey and his participation in the 37th annual Boise Twilight Criterium cycling event.

VCOM-Carolinas Holds Summer Enrichment Experience

The Summer Enrichment Experience at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Carolinas Campus (VCOM-Carolinas) was developed to foster an interest in STEM education in students from medically underserved areas, with the hope that they might pursue a medical education and eventually return to their home areas to practice medicine. The Bosch Community Fund recently awarded a $10,000 grant to the program.

Each summer, 65 high school students are selected for a one-week experience consisting of various activities designed to stimulate interest in science and medicine. Students gain exposure to the anatomy lab and the simulation lab, and they participate in short lectures and various hands-on activities. Read more about the Summer Enrichment Experience program.
