Senate Committee Advances AACOM-Endorsed Bill to Promote Healthcare Professionals’ Behavioral and Mental Health

- On May 23, 2024, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee advanced the bipartisan Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Reauthorization Act, S. 3679. AACOM first endorsed the original Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act in August 2020 and strongly supported the reauthorization upon its introduction in January 2024.
- The five-year reauthorization bill, introduced by Senators Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Todd Young (R-IN) and named in honor of Dr. Lorna Breen, provides a grant program to reduce and prevent suicide, burnout and mental and behavioral health conditions among healthcare professionals.
- In 2022, AACOM was recognized for its efforts to address burnout and advance resilience among the osteopathic medical education community and was awarded a multi-year $2.2 million grant.
