GME Development Opportunity: Third Round Application is Open for Residency Programs that want to Apply for New Residency Slots

Section 126 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 authorized the distribution of 1,000 additional Medicare-funded residency positions. A maximum of 200 positions may be distributed to qualifying hospitals each fiscal year beginning in FY2023. The deadline to submit an application for FY2025 is March 31, 2024. AOGME Pre-Conference Workshop on GME Development Strategies in Underserved and Community-Based Settings

On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, join us for the AOGME Pre-Conference Workshop at Educating Leaders 2024, the AACOM Annual Conference. This full-day workshop will provide best practices in GME development in underserved (rural and urban) and community-based settings. Interactive sessions and education will focus on strategies to create and sustain GME programs in primary and non-primary care specialties in these settings. GME funding opportunities and solutions at the federal and state level will be explored with real-life exemplars and case studies. ACGME Seeks Members for MUA/P Advisory Group

The ACGME seeks nominations of a resident/fellow and senior clinical executive leader (e.g., chief executive officer, chief medical officer, chief nursing officer) for the MUA/P Advisory Group. This group provides consultation concerning implementation of the ACGME’s framework for MUA/P and GME. Nominations are due by March 17, 2024. The senior clinical executive leader will serve up to three years with the option of renewing for an additional three-year term. Resident/fellow members will serve two-year terms. Self-nominations are accepted. If interested in a nomination from AOGME, please email us at aogme@aacom.org at your earliest convenience. AOGME Webinar Series: Upcoming Webinars

On Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 4:00 PM ET, Lori Rodefeld, MS, and John Boll, DO, will present a GME Development Series webinar on strategies to launch rural residency programs in critical access hospitals. The presenters will discuss models of rural GME, describe available start-up resources and share case examples of residency training in critical access hospitals. Register for the webinar.

AOGME Webinar Series: Webinar Recordings Available

On January 22, 2024, AOGME hosted a Transitions in Medical Education webinar on preparing for clinical rotations during medical school. This webinar featured a panel of current residents who provided insights into the process of securing rotations, offering practical tips on communication, preparation and etiquette for visiting rotations to medical students. On February 7, 2024, Daniel Elswick, MD, and Chris Francazio, MBA, presented a GME Development Series webinar on developing rural psychiatry residency programs. In this webinar, they highlighted rural training policy changes and resources available through the ACGME and discussed barriers and opportunities for developing psychiatry residency programs, including faculty recruitment and clinical education delivery. On February 22, 2024, May Lin, DO, Anya Cope, DO, and Britani Javed, DO, presented a webinar on careers in academic medicine, offering insights into this career pathway from the perspective of COM leadership. View the webinar recording.
