- On February 14, 2024, the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health held a hearing on legislation to reauthorize the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act (H.R. 7153) through fiscal year 2029, along with other bills.
- This AACOM-endorsed bill funds grants to healthcare organizations that offer behavioral health services to their frontline workers to combat burnout and reduce the stigma of seeking mental health services.
- The subcommittee reported concern about the growing rate of physician burnout, citing a study that about half of practicing physicians reported burnout.
- Corey Feist, CEO and co-founder of the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation, testified in the hearing, calling the reauthorization bill a “critical piece of the health delivery supply chain that benefits not only health workers, but every patient, every caregiver, every person that will require medical care in their lifetime.”
- AACOM continues to advocate for reauthorization of the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act in the Senate, which has referred the bill to the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee.
