Ryan Smith, DO, FAAFP, is a board-certified family medicine physician at Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital. His professional focus lies in a suburban environment, specifically within the metro Detroit area, where he addresses the healthcare needs of a significantly medically underserved population. Dr. Smith channels his passion for medicine into providing comprehensive care, actively working to alleviate health disparities prevalent in underserved regions facing numerous healthcare challenges.
Dr. Smith graduated from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, after which he pursued further specialization by completing his family medicine residency at Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital. Beyond his clinical duties, Dr. Smith is actively engaged in academic pursuits, serving as core faculty at the family medicine residency program within his institution. He finds fulfillment in interacting with residents and contributing to their educational journey.
Dr. Smith's leadership extends beyond the clinical and academic realms. He has held multiple roles, including chairing the Resident Council for the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) and serving as Resident Director for the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians (MAOFP). His commitment is further evident through his involvement in the AACOM Assembly of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Educators (AOGME) ‘s Resident and Fellows Council. Currently, Dr. Smith serves as a Director of the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians (MAOFP), where he also chairs the Education Committee and Bylaws Committee, showcasing his dedication to shaping the future of family medicine.
Outside of work, Dr. Smith treasures moments with his family and friends. Taking advantage of Michigan's outdoor offerings, he engages in activities such as biking, running and swimming, embracing a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle.
