- The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced it would convene a negotiated rulemaking committee to review proposed regulations under the Higher Education Act (HEA).
- The committee will address accrediting agency recognition, institutional eligibility, distance education, return of Title IV funds, cash management regulation and the Federal TRIO programs. For more information, see AACOM’s analysis.
- AACOM submitted comments on April 24, 2023 requesting ED to establish a negotiated rulemaking committee to rewrite Title IV regulations regarding state authorization and third-party servicers.
- ED opened nominations for negotiators due by December 13, 2023.
- AACOM nominated and supported the nomination of negotiators to serve on the committee.
