We express sincere appreciation to all AOGME members who participated in AACOM’s Advocacy Day last week. Your participation in this annual event to share your stories and experiences with lawmakers is essential to advancing AACOM’s priorities and the entire osteopathic medical education community.

Seeking Member Input & Engagement

We welcome our new AOGME members and thank all AOGME members who have engaged with us in our webinars, monthly membership discussion meetings and other engagement opportunities. We encourage all members to fill out our member engagement survey so we can collect member profiles and interests. This information will help us nominate qualified and interested individuals for national boards, task forces, committees and federal and state commissions. We encourage all AOGME members to complete this engagement survey for consideration in future engagement opportunities and access to leadership opportunities within AOGME.

AOGME Member Poll: Share Your GME Development Plans

Please take this brief poll (less than 2 minutes) to give us a sense of your planned activities this year to start new GME programs. This will help our efforts to support AOGME members and our colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs) in their GME development journey. If there are ways we can assist you in your efforts, please contact us at aogme@aacom.org.

New NRMP White Paper Provides Placement Rate Metric

The NRMP recently published a white paper announcing new reporting for the overall placement rate of applicants in both the Match and Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP). The data reported in the white paper demonstrate that the placement rate for active applicants among US DO seniors in the 2023 Match was 98.7%, the placement rate for all applicants among US DO seniors was 98.1% and the match rate for US DO seniors was 91.6%. Read the full white paper.

New NRMP Policies on Residency Match Interviews

The NRMP recently incorporated new policies for programs regarding residency interviews for the 2024 Match application cycle. Please review the policy highlights below and access the full details of these new policies.

  • Programs shall extend interview offers that equal, not exceed, the total number of available interview slots. Only one interview invitation can be extended per interview slot; first-come-first-serve practices are not permissible. This does not preclude the use of a wait list; however, programs must make transparent the process for wait list candidates and must adhere to the interview policies when extending interview offers to wait list candidates.
  • Programs shall provide applicants no less than 48 hours to accept or reject an interview invitation. This provides reasonable time for applicants to consider their options and respects those international medical graduates who reside outside of the U.S. as well as the clinical and academic obligations for all applicants.
  • Programs shall apply reasonable measures of notification (e.g., one-to-two weeks’ notice) when needing to cancel or reschedule an interview. Programs are encouraged to avoid last-minute cancellations, regardless of virtual or in-person interviews.
NRMP Call for Board Nominations

The NRMP Board of Directors is seeking nominations for: three senior directors, one resident physician director and one medical student director (must be a student of an osteopathic medical school). Nominations are due to the NRMP by November 1, 2023. Apply today.

New Resource for Students: COM-affiliated GME Residency Programs Guide

The UME-GME Task Force's Osteopathic GME Working Group pulled together a list of GME programs that are affiliated with COMs. The goal of the guide is to share this list with osteopathic medical students as a tool to consider utilizing as they apply for residency programs. This is a living document that will be regularly updated and refined with additional information gathering. To that end, please contact us at GME-Initiatives@aacom.org if there are programs that are not on this list, that have an affiliation with your COM or if you are a residency program that has an affiliation with a COM but are not listed in this guide. Access the guide.
