Central Iowa television station We Are Iowa recently highlighted contributions of medical supplies organized by local physicians and hospitals and ultrasound machines donated by the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DMUCOM) sent to help health professionals in Ukraine. ‘Simulation Showcase’ Highlights the Role of Simulation at ICOM

In recognition of Healthcare Simulation Week 2023, organized by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, the Simulation Department at the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM) hosted a “Simulation Showcase” on campus to highlight the role of simulation in medical education.
From high-fidelity simulation manikins to standardized patients and even task trainers—lifelike models of human anatomy designed to help learners practice a specific skill—each and every simulation experience enhances the medical education of ICOM’s student doctors. The purpose of the Simulation Showcase was to introduce participants to ongoing simulation activities and familiarize employees with existing simulation resources at ICOM. AZCOM Becomes One of Four DO Programs to Host Pilot Core Competency Assessment
The National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) has debuted a new pilot program called the Core Competency Capstone for Osteopathic Physicians (C3DO), aimed at replacing the now-discontinued COMLEX-USA Level 2 PE exam. The Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) is one of four colleges chosen to test the new program, overseen by Randall Nydam, PhD, AZCOM associate dean for academic affairs. In June, all third-year AZCOM students participated in the first round of C3DO, which was organized and hosted by Thomas O’Hare, DO, professor; Jacqueline J. Speigel, MS, PA-C, DFAAPA, CHSE, director of clinical skills and simulation and professor; and the Midwestern University Clinical Skills and Simulation Center.
WVSOM White Coat Ceremony Speaker to Students: ‘Seize This Opportunity’
The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) hosted its Class of 2027 Convocation and White Coat Ceremony on September 22, 2023, on the school’s campus in Lewisburg, WV. Keynote speaker L. Faith Payne, DO, a urologist who graduated in WVSOM’s Class of 2007, welcomed students into the osteopathic medical profession in an address that touched on the importance of working hard, following one’s own path and seeking justice. The New UNTHSC-TCOM-Affiliated ONMM Residency Program Opens at Lake Granbury Medical Center
A second University of North Texas Health Science Center-Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNTHSC-TCOM)-affiliated residency program has opened at Lake Granbury Medical Center. A new Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (ONMM) Residency program welcomed its first residents in July, joining the new Dermatology program that is affiliated with UNTHSC-TCOM that also began this summer. SHSU-COM, Texas Rural Health Association Address Rural Community Healthcare Needs
Engaging stakeholders to confront rural healthcare workforce needs headlined a two-day conference hosted at Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM) in conjunction with the Texas Rural Health Association, September 20-21, 2023, in Conroe, Texas.
The conference brought together a variety of rural health stakeholders ranging from the American Heart Association to SHSU’s Institute for Homeland Security. Keynote speakers described the efforts and resources their organizations offer to help rural healthcare systems survive, and more proactively, to thrive.
VCOM-Virginia Students Organize Health Fair
Outreach is a key pillar of life at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Virginia Campus (VCOM-Virginia), and you can often find students and faculty providing health services to communities in the region. Over the weekend, several student groups came together to organize a health fair in Franklin County, about 60 miles away from campus. Students offered osteopathic manipulation, blood pressure checks, skin cancer screenings, pharmacy information and guidance, women's health education and more to local residents. VCOM-Louisiana Chapter of the ACOEP Hosted a Triage Training Session

Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Louisiana Campus (VCOM-Louisiana)'s chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine Physicians (ACOEP) hosted a session led by a flight paramedic and flight nurse to teach students how to use the simple triage and rapid treatment (START) criteria to triage patients in mass casualty situations. Students also held a triage simulation with VCOM-Louisiana students that have previous EMT and paramedic training. VCOM-Carolinas Month-Long International Rotation in Dominican Republic
Students from VCOM-Carolinas, VCOM-Virginia and VCOM-Louisiana arrived in the Dominican Republic for a month-long international rotation on Monday, September 25, 2023.
Students in the Dominican Republic work from both the Pediatric Center and the Veron Primary Care Clinic. The group will return to the United States on October 19, 2023. There will also be a one-week VCOM medical outreach trip in the Dominican Republic from October 1-8, 2023. This rotation group will be working with the one-week outreach group for that week.
