- The House Energy and Commerce Committee is holding hearings to discuss the opioid crisis as they consider reauthorization of the Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities (SUPPORT) Act.
- On June 9, 2023, the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health convened a field hearing to review successes and challenges in opioid and substance use disorder treatment, including barriers to accessing care, especially for rural populations. View AACOM’s summary.
- On June 21, 2023, the Health Subcommittee continued the discussion at a legislative hearing on a number of expiring provisions of the SUPPORT Act, including those associated with Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) behavioral health workforce training programs and the Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery Loan Repayment Program. - First enacted in 2018 and set to expire on October 1, 2023, the SUPPORT Act included expansion of Medicare and Medicaid access to substance use disorder treatments, measures to address the over prescription of opioids, public awareness of the risks of opioids and supported research on pain management alternatives and addiction treatment.
