In honor of AACOM’s 125th anniversary occurring on June 28, House and Senate champions introduced congressional resolutions to recognize AACOM and the Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) who devote their time and skills to patients and communities across the United States.
On June 12, House Resolution 498 was introduced by Representatives Sam Graves (R-MO), Pat Ryan (D-NY), Susie Lee (D-NV), Troy Balderson (R-OH), Steven Cohen (D-TN), Dina Titus (D-NV) and Carol Miller (R-WV). On June 22, Senator James Risch (R-ID) introduced Senate Resolution 283. AACOM is working collaboratively with the Senator’s office to add cosponsors.
“As we celebrate AACOM’s 125th anniversary, one in four medical students are choosing osteopathic medicine, a number projected to grow to one in three by 2030,” said Wolfgang Gilliar, DO, dean, Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine. “Our enduring commitment to primary care and holistic approach continues to resonate with more and more students, improving the health of patients and communities across Nevada and the nation. I applaud Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV), Rep. Susie Lee (D-NV), Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO) and the other cosponsors for recognizing AACOM’s proud history and commitment to educating physicians who specialize in patient-centered care.”
“As we recognize the 125th anniversary of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, we can celebrate the fact that our profession is stronger than ever,” said Kenneth J. Steier, DO, executive dean and chief academic officer, Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, Harlem, Middletown and Great Falls campuses. “Our schools are educating 25 percent of the nation’s future physicians, many of whom go on to care for patients in rural and medically underserved areas. I am proud of how far we’ve come and am very grateful to Rep. Ryan and the other cosponsors for recognizing the difference osteopathic medicine is making in communities like Middletown, New York and for patients everywhere.”
