- On May 9, 2023, Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra signed the 11th Amendment to the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act, which extends the coverage period through 2024 for medical students that administer the COVID-19 vaccine. The coverage was previously set to expire as early as April.
- During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, AACOM’s Students Assist America, an interprofessional group of 12 associations, led the effort to amend the PREP Act to allow health professions students to administer COVID-19 vaccines and assist with the related tasks necessary for an effective and efficient vaccine roll out.
