- Recently, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced it will no longer require a DATA 2000 Waiver (Waiver) to prescribe buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD).
- This SAMHSA notice follows language in Section 1262 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, P.L. 117-328, which removed the requirement for clinicians to submit a waiver to prescribe medications for OUD.
- While the Waiver is no longer needed, eligible Rural Health Clinics may apply for funding through the DATA 2000 Waiver Training Payment Program to defray prior training costs.
