This month, AACOM released an online talent bank that will allow us to collect member profiles and interests, which in the future can help fill roles on national boards, task forces, committees, federal and state commissions and for osteopathic medical education (OME) spokespeople for medial projects and for mentorship. We encourage all AOGME members to complete your professional profile to access leadership opportunities.
AOGME Member Leadership Opportunities
AOGME members continue to serve in leadership roles and volunteer opportunities, we thank you for your continued engagement and critical role in advancing the osteopathic profession. This month, 22 AOGME members volunteered to serve as abstract reviewers for the AACOM Annual Conference, Educating Leaders 2022 (EL22).
National Collaborative for Improving the Clinical Learning Environment (NCICLE)
AOGME participates as a member of the National Collaborative for Improving the Clinical Learning Environment (NCICLE). Currently, NCICLE has opened a call for nominations for their leader advisory group and steering committee. NCICLE is looking to fill roles on the steering committee with members who will serve a 3-year term. Currently, the NCICLE Steering Committee meets virtually every third Thursday of the month from 10:00-11:00 am Central. If interested in a nomination from AOGME for the steering committee, email aogme@aacom.org by November 5, 2021.
NCICLE is also piloting a learner advisory group, which is an interprofessional group that will consist of learners from the health professions who will meet to discuss current trends, challenges, and opportunities on how to improve the clinical learning environment (CLE). The group will consist of 9 members (4 undergraduate students and 5 residents/fellows). Members will serve a one-year staggered term. The pilot advisory group will convene in January 2021 and will meet quarterly. If interested in receiving a nomination from AOGME for the learner advisory group, email us at aogme@aacom.org.
ACGME Clinical Learning Environment Review
The ACGME Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) program also issued a call for nominations for membership on the CLER Evaluation Committee. The CLER Evaluation Committee is currently seeking members from the following communities of healthcare professionals: Chief Executive Officer of hospital or healthcare system (currently or recently active) and Resident or fellow physician with significant training in patient safety and healthcare quality. The term for the resident member is 2 years (non-renewable), all terms will begin July 1, 2022. If interested in a nomination, please email us at aogme@aacom.org.
2022 AOGME Collegium of Fellows & AOGME Awards
The call for nominations for the 2022 AOGME Awards is now open with three categories of awards: Leadership, Special Lifetime Achievement and Special Award of Appreciation. Nominations are due on December 30, 2021, and awardees will be recognized at Educating Leaders 2022, the AACOM Annual Conference. Learn more about the AOGME Awards.
Applications are also now open to join AOGME’s Collegium of Fellows. Fellowship in the Collegium is an honor recognizing long and meritorious service to the AOGME and the osteopathic profession. The status of Fellows is awarded for life, and when awarded the recipient is entitled to use the initials FAOGME following his/her name and degree. Applications must be received by December 1, 2021. AOGME Resources on Virtual Interviews and Tips for the Match
The AOGME Residents and Fellows Council (RFC) along with other members of AOGME led a series of webinars to help students prepare for the 2021-2022 residency recruitment cycle. The RFC also hosted a live chat on specialty choice and preparing for interviews which included breakout rooms by specialty. The webinars are free and open to the community. The Value and Impact of Osteopathic Recognition
We were pleased to partner with the Alliance of Independent Academic Medical Centers (AIAMC) and AOGME for a collaborative webinar presentation and panel discussion on the value of Osteopathic Recognition on September 30 at 1:00 PM ET which included presenters from Cleveland Clinic: Dr. Kelly Raj, Director of Osteopathic Education, Dr. Neil Smith, President, Fairview Hospital, Dr. Alexander Ford, PGY-2 and Dr. Lilian White, PGY-2. The AACOM Post-doc Guide
The AOGME has developed an online resource, the Post-Doc Guide, to help osteopathic medical students explore residency and fellowship opportunities by specialty, program location and program type. This resource was designed for third and fourth-year osteopathic medical students and features programs that historically train DOs. All the programs listed have earned the designation of Osteopathic Recognition or were previously AOA-accredited programs that transitioned to ACGME accreditation or “AOA-legacy” programs.
