Income/Expense Osteopathic Medical Colleges Research Reports Trends

For fiscal year (FY)2019, 36 private and 7 public colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs) reported data, including three new private COMs and one new public COM since FY2017.

Private COMs reported an excess of $50.45 Mil in revenues over expenditures and transfers for FY2019 when compared to FY2017.  Public COMs reported an excess of $83.32 Mil over expenditures and transfers for FY2019 when compared to FY2017.

There is a difference of $181.69 Mil in excess revenues over expenditures and transfers between private and public COMs for FY2019.  This is a decrease of revenues over expenditures and transfers when comparing the difference between private and public COMs, which was $214.56 Mil for FY2017.

Note: COMs were administered an abbreviated version of the 2019-20  Annual Osteopathic Medical School Questionnaire (Annual Survey) due to COVID-19 and COM operations affected consequently.  COM deans voted on which sections to complete for the abbreviated version, which omitted sections that would have collected fiscal year (FY)2018 revenues and expenditures data.  Therefore, FY2018 data is unavailable for analysis and FY2017 data has been used instead when comparing FY2019 data.
