Applicants Matriculants State Residency Trends
This report on applicants and matriculants uses data from the AACOMAS application to summarize the legal state of residency by entering year. Some key findings from this report include:
High Population States: Larger and highly populous states, such as California, New York and Florida, provide a high percentage of applicants and matriculants. In 2025, these three states accounted for approximately 30 percent of AACOMAS applicants and matriculants.
Growth in State Representation: New York, Illinois, and Georgia had the greatest increases in their applicant pools. In 2025, the percentage of applicants from New York rose to 7.1 percent, while those from Illinois and Georgia rose to 3.8 percent and 2.8 percent, respectively.
Growth in State Representation: New York, Illinois, and Tennessee had the greatest increases in their matriculant pools. In 2025, the percentage of matriculants from New York rose to 6.8 percent, while those from Illinois and Tennessee rose to 3.5 percent and 1.6 percent, respectively.
